Abstract:
The proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller is the most popular controller used in almost all process industries till date. Earlier it was first implemented in pneumatic devices but now its use is extended to analog as well as digital electronics. The presence of time delay in the system affects the stability and performance of the system. In this paper an IMC-PID controller is designed for a higher order system with time delay and is compared with the conventional PID controller. The simulation result show that the IMC controller provides better performance as compared to the conventional method.
